Just when we thought 2020 would NEVER end! And with recent news, it’s looking like there’s light at the end of the tunnel.  Is it…IS IT…?


 Here are a few places that will be open and/or offering Christmas and New Year’s Eve events.  If we hear of any more, we’ll be sure to update this article. 

Bailey's General Store

Bailey’s General Store (239-472-1516, is offering a customizable Christmas dinner on their website, ranging from $149 - $179 (depending on the order).  Choose from Turkey with gravy and stuffing, Dietz & Watson pineapple-glazed ham, or Prime Rib of Beef Au Jus with multiple choices for potato, vegetables, sauce, and pie.  Extra fixings are also available at various prices.  ORDER BY MONDAY, DECEMBER 21

Sundial Beach Resort & Spa

Sundial Beach Resort & Spa (239-395-6013, is having their annual “Christmas at the Beach” celebration, beginning with Breakfast With Santa (limited seating, call 239-395-7227 for this event) from 9 am to Noon and an excellent buffet dinner with seatings from noon to 6 pm with entrees, appetizers, and desserts too numerous to list (Click this link for details).  Also includes live entertainment.  Adults are $59, children 4 through 12 are $20, and those 3 and under are free.  Call 239-395-6013 to book reservations (credit card taken to guarantee). 

The Sundial is also offering to have a New Year’s Eve Party to say, “Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021” with family-friendly entertainment, games, and contests and a dinner buffet from 6:30 pm to Midnight.  Adults are $80, children 4 through 12 are $30, kids 3 and under are free.  Exclusive cabana with reserved table seating and service for up to 10 is also available at $850.  Advance tickets are required by calling 239-395-7227.

The Paper Fig Kitchen

The Paper Fig Kitchen (239-887-0050, is offering a Holiday Dinner Package to serve either 4 or 8 people, available for both Christmas and New Year’s Eve with your choice of stuffed Beef or Pork Tenderloin with amazing accompaniments prepared and oven-ready.  Orders for Christmas are due THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17 AT NOON with pickup on Wed. December 23rd from 10 am to 2 pm or Christmas Eve from 9 am to 11 am.  Orders for New Year’s Eve are due WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 23RD AT NOON with pickup on Wed. December 30th between 10 am and 4 pm.  Click this link for details.

The Pecking Order

The Pecking Order Fried Chicken & Pies (239-472-2534, will be open with a full menu of the best cluckin’ chicken (and handmade pies) on Christmas Eve until 6pm.

Sweet Melissa's Cafe

Sweet Melissa’s Café (239-472-1956, will be offering a special five-course meal for New Year’s Eve for $175 per person with wine pairings ($125 per person without) plus taxes and gratuity.  If you prefer to celebrate at home, Chef Melissa is preparing a Happy New Year Box with Schramsberg Blanc De Blancs Champagne, Dough Chardonnay, Chateau La Cardonne Medoc, and party favors.  $350 per box (excluding tax & gratuity) to be picked up or delivered between 2pm and 5pm on December 31st.  Click this link for details and the full five-course menu.

The Timbers of Sanibel

The Timbers and Sanibel Grill (239-472-3128, will be open Christmas Day and offering the following specials for dine-in (reservations recommended) or take-out: Turkey Dinner ($21.00, with apple sage stuffing, vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy), Prime Rib ($30.00, with au jus, vegetables, and a choice of side), and Maine LOBSTAH (correct spelling in New England) ($28.00 for 1 pound, $38.00 for 1.5 pounds) with drawn BUTTAH, vegetables, and choice of side.

George & Wendy's Sanibel Seafood Grille

George & Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grille (239-395-1263, will be closed Christmas Day, but be sure to check their New Year’s Eve Party from 7pm till Midnight with live entertainment! Always a blast!

However, there is one place that won’t be celebrating…The J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge will be CLOSED (including the main wildlife driving trail) on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, as they fall on Fridays.  The wildlife trail is consistently closed every Friday to allow the birds and beasts to congregate without humans watching them.  No word on whether this guy had anything to do with that this year:
