Things to do on Sanibel

Fortunately, we are not dealing with a blizzard (though we are cleaning up a small mess from Tuesday’s weather).  And the good news is that there are many options on what to do for Christmas Eve.

We will start with the Reason for the Season:

There will be a beachside service at 5:00 PM at Lighthouse Beach hosted by the Sanibel Congregational United Church Christ.  They will also hold a Candlelight service at 9:00 PM at the Church (2050 Periwinkle Way).  Masks are available and strongly encouraged for the unvaccinated.

St. Michael’s & All Angels Episcopal Church (2304 Periwinkle Way, just before the curve to Palm Ridge Road) will have a Children’s Holy Eucharist Service from 5:00 to 6:15 PM and a Traditional Holy Eucharist Service from 8:00 to 9:00 PM.  There will also be a Holy Eucharist Service at 10:00 AM on Christmas Day.  Masks are highly recommended! If you cannot be there in person, all events will be livestreamed on their website.

St. Isabel Catholic Church (3559 Sanibel-Captiva Road, corner with Rabbit Road) will have Mass on Christmas Eve at 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM and on Christmas Day at 10:30 AM.  This can also be livestreamed on their YouTube channel.

Captiva’s famous Chapel by the Sea (11580 Chapin Lane) will have a Christmas Eve service at 6:00 PM and a Christmas Day service at 11:00 AM.  This can also be watched on their YouTube channel.

The Sanibel Community Church (1740 Periwinkle Way, next door to Jerry’s Plaza) will have Candlelight Services on Christmas Eve at 5:00, 6:00, and 8:00 PM.

For grocery shopping, Bailey’s General Store and Jerry’s Foods will have shortened hours (Bailey’s from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Jerry’s from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM), but Huxter’s Market and Deli will be open it’s regular hours (6:30 AM to 10:00 PM) on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (not to mention the two 7-Elevens on Periwinkle Way).

Most restaurants will be closing early Friday, between 3:00 and 7:00 PM.  But there are still many options for dining Christmas Eve:

Blue Giraffe (Beachview Golf Club) – open till 9:00 PM

The Bubble Room (where it’s *always* Christmas) – serving dinner from 4:30 till 7:00 PM

The Old Captiva House and The Crow’s Nest at Tween Waters Resort are open from 5:00 till 11:00 PM

Cip’s Place (2055 Periwinkle Way) – serving dinner until 9:00 PM

Doc Ford’s locations on Sanibel (across from Bailey’s) and Captiva (Chadwick’s Circle, by the entrance to South Seas Resort) will be serving dinner until 10:00 PM.  The Captiva location will also be open Christmas Day from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

George & Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grille (in the Bailey’s Shopping Plaza) will be serving until 10:00 PM with live entertainment (Smooth Jazz artist Gerald Augustin) from 7:00 PM till closing.

The Island Cow (2163 Periwinkle Way) will be open its regular hours (8:00 AM to 9:00 PM) Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  A fun place for family food!

Key Line Bistro (Andy Rosse Lane, Captiva) will be open its regular hours (8:00 AM to 10:00 PM) Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Sanddollar at the Sanibel Island Beach Resort (1231 Middle Gulf Drive) will be open its regular hours (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM) Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
