This week, we have several things to mention. First, we'd like to take a moment to remember Shirley Walter, the founder of CROW (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife) who recently passed away. Starting with a personal effort in 1968 to a group of volunteers to a non-profit organization, CROW became an essential part of Sanibel's conservation and educational atmosphere, due in no small part to Shirley's passion for wildlife. For more information about CROW, please check this recent article in our Beach Blog and read CROW's touching memorial to Shirley from their website here. This includes an opportunity to donate to CROW as a tribute to Ms. Walter.
As you may have heard, most of Florida has begun the process of re-opening in the wake of the COVID-19. This week, restaurants have re-opened in-house dining (but at 25% capacity) and non-essential retail stores have been allowed to resume. Of course, social distancing is highly encouraged (and in some places, masks are highly encouraged and even required). At present, Sanibel Holiday and all other vacation accommodations are expecting to resume arrivals on Saturday, May 16. Be sure to check our website's COVID-19 Info section for daily updates.
When that happens, we'll be ready to welcome our guests back. Among the attractions mentioned, we want to remind you that the Sanibel Farmer's Market is still operating on Sunday mornings (8 am to 1pm) through the end of May. The Market had remained open (with appropriate precautions) during the winter, with great treats beyond imagination. We have more information in an article in the Beach Blog. If you have any questions for the organizers, you can Message them on their Facebook page (Sanibel Island Farmer's Market).
We look forward to welcoming all visitors back to Sanibel Island soon, and we are now offering a chance to not only Book Direct and Save, but also Stress Free. Get ready to get outside again!
