Sanibel OutdoorsThings to do on Sanibel

The Sanibel-Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce recently announced that the 2021 Luminary Festival will be celebrated in the traditional version, as approved by the City of Sanibel.

Last year, Luminary events were reimagined for the first full week in December to protect the public from COVID-19 and promote "COASTAL Distancing."  Many shops and restaurants offered specials and promotions for the week.  One new tradition that will continue will be the slogan for the Festival; "Eat.  Shop.  Stay.  Play."

For those not familiar, the Islands celebrate the first weekend of December (Sanibel on Friday night, Captiva on Saturday night) with the official holiday lighting of Periwinkle Way (including luminary bags along the bike trails on and adjoining with Periwinkle Way).  Many of Periwinkle’s stores have late-night sales and socials with an abundancy of refreshments and entertainment.  For craft beer lovers, be sure to ask when going to your favorite restaurant for a Luminary Lager, from local micro-brewery Point Ybel, made especially (and a little differently each year) for the Festival.  Check out some reviews of this brew on Untapped.

Captiva Island will also have their annual Golf Cart Parade on Saturday afternoon (December 4).  Details for this event will be forthcoming.

Sanibel Holiday still has plenty of condos available for the week which includes Sanibel's Luminary Night (Saturday, November 27 to Saturday, December 4).  This link will show our current weekly condos (most of them showing "Book Now") to choose from in various locations, mostly with direct beach access.  This link will highlight the four homes still open to rent for the full month of December.  How'd you like to spend Christmas on Sanibel Island?
